I first heard MYMP on our way to Warwick for some apple picking last year. My friend had them on the car stereo. That's about it. Last week, I've been getting invites to watch their concert in Columbia University on Sunday, 9/24. Which I turned down cause it's too pricey for me (sama ko no?). I mean, $40 for gen. admission! I got a Red Hot Chilli tix for about the same price! And I never paid up to P2,000 for Rivermaya who's an all-time fave band back in Pinas! But, it was just a boring Sunday and my girl friends are very adamant. Sure, why not? What was the fuss about anyway? Sold out huh? Imagine they also have $60 and $80 tickets. Pinoys here would really spend for their idols, that much is a fact.
I got there late as usual, and the show has just started. And none of my girl pals, who got me a ticket, would pick up. And it started to rain so hard. And I was left in the lobby. And the ticket was sold out!!!!! Hmmm...
Then this guy named Jason sold me a tix for a lower price. Well, yeah, I was actually there and the rain wouldn't let up. And so I got in, but I felt cross somehow because then i'll be watching the show all by myself! Oh well...
Luckily, I saw my friend, who's a reporter nyahaha! So we ended up together, but we had to sit at the back 'cause we talk too much, assessing the show and all that. Like me, he doesn't know MYMP. He would ask me the title of the songs Juris was singing (at least Ed knew her name haha), which are all revivals. Turned out I knew all of their songs, and who did the original. My fave was their rendition of Nothing's Gonna Stop us Now. They did Wag Mo Nang Itanong, Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic, Love Moves in Mysterious Ways, I'll Never Get Over You Getting Over Me, Waiting in Vain, among others. The auditorium was filled up really. It was a hit, I should say...
We were like, yeah sure, she can carry a tune, but what makes MYMP a hit? Sorry, we didn't find them extraordinary, although in fairness, Juris can belt out a tune. She knows what song suits her voice, but to me, she seemed so tired and spent. I actually enjoyed Kayumanggi's stint (one of the covers). The band connects with the audience and had a stage presence than MYMP. No offense. The crowd even begged for more! Edmund and I enjoyed their performance and that's when we felt the concert spirit. Well, yeah, Kayumanggi did rock songs, and MYMP of course does acoustic sentimental-thingy so what did we expect. It was very quiet during MYMP's performance, we're like hmmmmm...
Anyway, Edmund had to leave cause he was dead tired coming from St. Patrick's. Our very own Bishop Rosales pala officiated the mass earlier, I didn't know. It was very nice of him to leave/entrust to me (nyahaha!) his all access pass! So I ended up taking notes for him and taking MYMP's photos. When he left I moved to the front row, since I was all by myself and i had to take close-up shots for him after all. Turned out another pal was the cameraman for the show, as well as the co-producer! Now why did I have to pay again? tsk! tsk!
All in all, it was fun naman. Even if i paid hahaha. I had a photo with them na rin. Geez, showbiz =)

For my friends who like MYMP, here are some photos.
